Exhibition Place demonstrates "How to Have a Green
Holiday," with CMHC and EcoSmart's Sustainable Condo
Toronto,
ON (Nov 20, 2007)
After
stops throughout the city and with Jack Frost starting to nip, the
Sustainable Condo has found a warm, long-term home in time for the
Holidays. The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) along
with EcoSmart Foundation and the Board of Governors of Exhibition
Place will be displaying its Sustainable CondoTM, a full-size presentation
suite, at Exhibition Place's CMHC Eco Pods (former Music Building).
The
display will run from November 29, 2007 until at least December
31, 2008 in an effort to educate and inform Torontonians about sustainability,
by showcasing green technologies and sustainable products -- all
of which are available locally. Following the November 29th launch,
Public tours of the Sustainable Condo will be offered weekends (Saturday's
from 10-5pm and Sunday's from 12-5pm, closed Holidays).
"Toronto
residents want simple ways they can make changes in their own lives
to improve the environment," says Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, Chair
of the Board of Governors of Exhibition Place, adding that "the
Sustainable Condo provides an inspiring demonstration of how green
building design and green furnishings can be used in our homes right
now."
In
the spirit of the holiday season, the Sustainable Condo will be
launching with its theme, "How to have a Green Holiday." The Condo
will include various eco-friendly products including trees, wreaths,
eco gifts, candles and much more. The launch will also include celebrity
media teams competing in a "green" wreath decorating challenge,
of which all wreaths, trees and decorations will be donated to the
recipients of CMHC's Shelter Enhancement Program.
"The
Sustainable Condo is part of a larger educational exhibit which
will also include a meeting room space for workshops and other functions.
We hope this exhibit will educate the public about sustainability
and be a form of encouragement for people to make greener choices,"
says Dianne Young, CEO, Exhibition Place.
