With a reputation of successfully hosting high-profile
world leaders, The National Trade Centre once again takes the world
stage as host to His Holiness The Dalai Lama. Starting back in September
2001, The Canadian Tibetan Association initiated plans with venue
managers, O&Y/SMG Canada for the visit of His Holiness The Dalai Lama
to confer the Kalachakra for World Peace in Toronto, Canada.
The Canadian Tibetan Association required specific provisions in order
to have a venue host the 11 day event. It was essential for them to
be able to accommodate 9,000 visitors per day, create staging with
custom wheelchair ramps, an elaborate video and sound installation,
private facilities for His Holiness, including a separate kitchen
for the Tibetan Monks to prepare meals, high-tech connectivity, and
accommodate simultaneous security deployment at the federal and municipal
levels.
"The ability to host a high-security event is just one example of
the level of expertise and operational management that our staff offers",
stated Arlene Campbell, General Manager of The National Trade Centre.
"Our operational strength is demonstrated in our ability to manage
world-class events, while maintaining our attention to our core business
clients.
The National Trade Centre is Canada's largest exhibition and meeting
facility, with over 1 million square feet of space. The National Trade
Centre at Exhibition Place is owned by the City of Toronto and professionally
managed and operated by O&Y/SMG Canada. The profitable year-round
tradeshow facility annually hosts over 180 tradeshows, consumer shows
and events. The O&Y/SMG Canada is a Canadian company that offers facility
management services to trade and convention centre, stadiums and arenas
