The National Trade Centre Welcomes Pope John Paul II

This month, the National Trade Centre at Exhibition Place, Toronto will welcome His Holiness Pope John Paul II for the celebration of World Youth Day 2002. As Headquarters for this international youth conference and festival, The National Trade Centre has transformed its multi-functional exhibition space into a sanctified setting for young people from around the world for their pilgrimage to see the Pope.

“It is a rare privilege to host World Youth Day 2002 – Toronto will offer a warm and hospitable welcome to all delegates and the tranquil waterfront location of the National Trade Centre will be the perfect setting for this significant religious festival”, said Ernest Vincent, General Manager of The National Trade Centre. Over 250,000 attendees will attend the gathering, increasing this year’s attendance to Exhibition Place to an expected 5 million visitors. The sheer volume and cultural diversity of attendees qualify World Youth Day 2002 as an event phenomenon – a once in a lifetime experience.

The National Trade Centre is professionally managed by O&Y/SMG Canada, a Canadian company offering management services to convention and trade centres, arenas, stadiums and theatre across the country. O&Y/SMG Canada is a partnership between O&Y Properties Inc. of Toronto, and SMG of Philadelphia, a leader in the United States in the professional management of 143 first-class trade and convention centres, arenas, stadiums and theatres.
