Four months after its opening, The National Trade Centre has booked $1.1 million
in confirmed new business, representing 14 new events within the
trade and consumer show industry. A symbol of confidence in the
future of this city, The National Trade Centre is proving to be
a welcome addition to the economic infrastructure of Toronto.
With over a million square feet of exhibit space, The National Trade
Centre, a $180-million high-tech trade facility is positioned as
North America’s third largest trade centre under one roof.
With trade show delegates spending on an average of $1,260.00, Centre
officials claim The National Trade Centre will put Metro Toronto
on the world trade show map, and indeed, the process has started,
spinning off millions of dollars worth of revenue into the city’s
trade economy.
During 1999, The National Trade Centre will host the largest machine
tool show in North America, The Canadian Machine Tool Show, produced
by one of the world’s largest trade show producers, Reed Exhibition
Companies. This show will occupy just over half a million square
feet of space. Bob Macgregor, President of Reed Exhibition Companies
says, “The National Trade Centre is a great building for us
to produce shows in because of the sheer size of the facility and
its capability, through its integrated service and utility systems,
to house heavy metal-cutting machinery all in one contiguous space.”
With its amenities including the capability to accommodate various
configurations and space requirements along with an advanced system
of fibre optics and telecommunication links, officials predict The
National Trade Centre will secure other new and innovative shows
currently held outside of Canada. “We aim to introduce the
facility to the Asian, European and U.S. markets as a gateway city,
so we can better serve their needs. Being over 1 million square
feet, it ranks as the third largest facility in North America and
the largest in Canada. In comparison to facilities in Asia, Europe
and the U.S., The National Trade Center is a large, serviceable
and user-friendly facility to meet the clients’ needs,”
says John Sellers, General Manager of The National Trade Centre.
Located in downtown Toronto within Exhibition Place, The National
Trade Centre is owned by the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto
and managed by O&Y/SMG Canada. O&Y/SMG Canada is a partnership
between O&Y Properties Inc. of Toronto, managing more than 21
million square feet of commercial, retail and mixed-use properties
across Canada, and Spectacor Management Group, the leader in the
United States in the management of first-class trade and convention
facilities, operating 24 centres and over 60 facilities, including
arenas, stadiums and theatres. |
